Kakadu in a Day

Kakadu is dual-listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its outstanding natural and cultural values. No trip to the Northern Territory is complete without a visit to this iconic National Park.
Kakadu in a day is the ideal tour for the time poor looking to include all the "must-do's" of Australia's largest National Park; Kakadu. Enjoy 1.5hours of spectacular scenic flying, cruise on the Yellow Water billabong, visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre and still be back in Darwin for late afternoon and evening activities.

The Northern Territory celebrates 2 seasons; Wet and Dry. We fly all year around and our Kakadu day tour itinerary will differ slightly between the seasons.


MAY – NOVEMBER ITINERARY (DRY SEASON)

08:30am Check in at Kakadu Air Terminal
09:00am – 10:30am Kick start the day with a 1.5hour scenic flight paired with informative commentary delivered by your expert pilot. This extended flight tracks over Adelaide River, Mary River National Park, Kakadu’s winding South and East Alligator rivers, coastal mangroves holding back massive floodplains to reveal the Arnhem Land Plateau standing proudly on the Eastern side of Kakadu.
10:30am Transfers to the Cultural Centre
11:00am – 12:00pm Developed by the Aboriginal traditional owners of Kakadu, wonder through Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. The displays include personal histories, videos and artifacts that illustrate stories that the traditional owners want to share with you. Browse the gallery gift shop offering traditional didgeridoos, local artwork and much more.
12:00pm – 13:00pm Lunch at Barra Bar and Bistro
13:15pm The Yellow Water billabong is rich with flora, wildlife and changing landscapes. Sit back and relax on a 90minute cruise through Kakadu’s wetlands. It is a journey remembered for a lifetime.
15:00pm Depart Kakadu on a 45minute ferry flight back to Darwin.
16:00pm Farewell our guests at Darwin


DECEMBER – APRIL ITINERARY (WET SEASON)

08:30am Check in at Kakadu Air Terminal, Darwin
09:00am – 10:30am Kakadu comes to life in the Wet season. Start your morning with 1.5hours of scenic flying paired with informative commentary delivered by your expert pilot. This extended flight tracks over Adelaide River, Mary River National Park, Kakadu’s winding South and East Alligator Rivers, coastal mangroves holding back massive floodplains to reveal the Arnhem Land Plateau standing proudly on the Eastern side of Kakadu. We finish off your aerial sightseeing with views over the mighty Jim Jim and Twin Waterfalls.
11:00am Transfers to Cruise
11:30am The Yellow Water billabong is rich with flora, wildlife and changing landscapes. Sit back and relax on a 90minute cruise through Kakadu’s wetlands. It is a journey remembered for a lifetime. Keep an eye out for crocs sun baking!
13:00pm – 14:00pm Lunch at Barra Bar and Bistro

Kakadu Cultural Experience

See breathtaking horizons from the top of a Kakadu escarpment with nearly two hours of spectacular scenic flying. Exploring the vast but beautiful Kakadu landscape, as well as a visit to some iconic features that make the Park world-famous. Absorb the pristine wilderness of this unique landscape on a leisurely cruise over submerged paperbark forests along the East Alligator River with Guluyambi Cultural Cruises. A visit to the culturally significant Ubirr is a must to view the famous Aboriginal rock art galleries. Glimpse into the timeless culture of the Bininj / Mungguy people and immerse yourself into the relic paintings documenting ancient human interaction with the environment all in one day to be comfortably back in Darwin by late afternoon.

Start your day in Kakadu with a visit to the Marrawuddi Art Gallery. Enjoy a great cup of coffee (optional) and spend some time admiring the marvellous West Arnhem art available at the gallery. All artworks for sale at Marrawuddi are created by Aboriginal artists living in Kakadu and the surrounding region, many of whom are regularly in the workshop creating new pieces. Visitors are encouraged to spend some time at Marrawuddi meeting artists and discussing their works.

Upon arrival, meet the team at Guluyambi Cultural Cruises. Soak up the World Heritage wilderness on your leisurely cruise, narrated by a local guide - who will provide authentic insight into Aboriginal culture, local folklore, and stories. Discover the workings of the region's unique environment and how plants and animals have been used to support the traditional lifestyle of the people who lived here long before any Europeans. You may even learn some bush survival skills!
A visit to nearby Ubirr to immerse yourself in a timeless culture through the rock art sites and enjoy the spectacular views of the floodplains to the west. Enjoy a custom-made packed lunch overlooking the rich, verdant vista, teeming with wildlife.
