COONAWARRA HIGHLIGHTS WINE TOUR
12:30 PM - 5 PM

Our Coonawarra Highlights tour is perfect for the wine traveller who wants to experience a cross-section of our iconic cellar doors but in a limited time frame. We’ll take you in comfort and style along the famous “Terra Rossa” strip, taking in the vineyards as they race past your window.

You’ll feast on sumptuous produce platters, meet and chat with the winemakers and perhaps go behind the scenes and enjoy a barrel tasting or two. We’ll illustrate the history of the region and show you the unique nature of the red soil over ancient limestone.

An example of an afternoon itinerary is listed below - you may request or change any winery you would prefer to visit*.

Patrick of Coonawarra - Meet the friendly family team at Patrick of Coonawarra where you will enjoy a full tasting of the Patrick range. Learn the history of the family and tuck into the sumptuous gourmet produce platter with a glass of wine at the end of your tasting.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate - Home to the very first winery that started all way back in 1896. The stunning Gables is home to the iconic Wynns Coonawarra label and we will take you through the history of the Wynns story and discuss John Riddoch, the man who launched Coonawarra as a premium wine region. We'll then show you a range of Wynns wines that will suit any palette and even take a look in the original cellar. No trip to Coonawarra is complete without visiting Wynns.

Coonawarra Siding - You simply must stop for a selfie at the siding when in Coonawarra! We'll swing by and make sure you get that perfect photo opportunity while learning about the people who opened the railway in the 1800s and made Coonawarra accessible to the world.

Katnook Coonawarra - Katnook lies in the heart of the fabled Coonawarra wine region, South Australia. With a history stretching back to 1867, Katnook is home to some of Australia’s best terra rossa vineyards. Step inside John Riddoch’s beautifully restored, historic limestone building, now our Cellar Door, to taste our wines and find out why they are one of the best in the region.

Raidis Estate - At this welcoming family winery, you'll enjoy a full range of tastings and relax in this hugely welcoming cellar door. Whether it's relaxing on the comfy couches or lying in the sun on the lawns, it's always a fun visit with the Raidis team. The Raidis family are of Greek origin and produce the only Pinot Gris grown in Coonawarra so make sure you try it! You may even end the day with a Greek coffee from the head of the family, Chris Raidis.

Stop 3 - Coonawarra Railway Siding
After lunch. you'll visit the Coonawarra Railway Siding for a must-have photo opportunity while we run through the importance of the railway line and how it opened up our region to the world. The railway siding was established in the late 19th century when the railway line was extended to the Coonawarra region. It played a vital role in transporting goods, including wine barrels, grapes, and other agricultural produce, to and from the area. The railway provided a crucial link between Coonawarra and the broader South Australian rail network, facilitating the distribution of goods to markets across the country. Make sure you grab a "selfie at the siding" before we continue our big day out!

Stop 4 - Wynns Coonawarra Estate
We then head to where it literally all started in Coonawarra back in 1896. Wynns Coonawarra (as it's been known since 1951) was our first winery built by founder, John Riddoch. You'll be welcomed at the door of the historic "Gables" with a glass of the flagship Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon and taken on a private tour of the cellar door. We'll then head down to the original wine cellar where you'll be treated to a private tasting of the Wynns Coonawarra Icon series of wines. In this amazing setting, learn more about the rich history of Wynns as you sample the top wines that Wynns has to offer including the John Riddoch Cabernet, Michael Shiraz, & other single vineyard classics from this Coonawarra icon.

Stop 5 - Parker Estate
We have something special for you to enjoy at Parker Estate in Coonawarra. Yes, it is a very famous winery known for its cool climate Cabernet and Shiraz but it also has three distinct Gins on offer. The Parker team will have a delicious Gin flight waiting for you on arrival. Be guided through a vertical tasting of the Signature Dry Gin, Cabernet Gin, and an aromatic Rose Gin. Each has a distinct flavour and the perfect use of botanicals and we know at least one will become your new favourite.

Stop 6 - Penola - Private Kangaroo Sanctuary *
Our last stop of the day is something truly special! You will visit a private property in Penola that contains its own wildlife sanctuary that looks after kangaroos who have experienced the loss of their parents and cannot survive in the wild without assistance from the incredible owners of the property. During your visit, you may have the opportunity to feed kangaroos under the guidance of the staff. This hands-on experience allows you to offer kangaroos specially prepared food while learning about their dietary needs and habits. Feeding sessions often create memorable interactions, as kangaroos approach you with curiosity and gentle behaviour. As you explore the sanctuary, you'll likely encounter kangaroos in various stages of development, from joeys (baby kangaroos) to fully grown adults. Observing their social interactions, including their hopping, grazing, and grooming behaviours, provides a deeper understanding of their natural lifestyle.
*This experience takes place on private property and is not open to the general public. This component of the tour is subject to availability and will be substituted for another activity if unavailable.
