Teach Me, Feed Me

Begin your experience at 11am with a one hour Wine Masterclass featuring iconic Wendouree, Grosset and Kilikanoon wines along with other wines that demonstrate the diversity of Clare Valley Wines selected from Sommelier Warrick Duthy's multi-award-winning Wine List. Learn about Clare Valley terroir, geology, geography, and what makes our wines so diverse and positively different.
Available 7 days. Meeting at the Watervale Hotel by 11am, minimum of two, maximum of 20 guests per day.

Following on at 12 noon with a full Feed Me Menu curated by our Head Chef and low-waste warrior Nicola Palmer. A variety of small and large dishes including dessert showcasing fresh, seasonal farm-to-plate produce from our local farm partners including the organic and bio-dynamic Penobscot Farm.

The Watervale Hotel has been awarded 'Best Restaurant in a Pub or Club in Australia', and the Best Tourism restaurant in SA in 2022. In 2021 our wine list was awarded the 'Best Pub Restaurant Wine List in Australia' at the Australian Wine List Awards and 'Best Wine List in South Australia' by the Restaurant & Catering Association.

Wendouree Degustation Experience

A.P. Birks first planted wines at the legendary Wendouree Estate in 1892, a period of expansion for the Clare Valley wine industry. 130 vintages later the styles have not changed, nor the viticultural or winemaking methods.
These wines are an iron fist in a velvet glove. Intense but elegant.
The Watervale Hotel Wendouree Degustation matches individually plated dishes matched to six Wendouree Wines held in the ‘Hell Hole’ jail built in 1868. It is a ‘bucket list’ experience ideal for groups of
friends, corporate or professional groups; made even better if you book the Watervale Hotel Guesthouse for accommodation. Available for either lunch or dinner, bookings essential.
The wines will change with availability over time, but they will follow a consistent pattern.
Six different vintages, getting older as the dinner rolls on.
Each wine a different variety or blend

2015 Shiraz / Mataro
2013 Shiraz
2010 Cabernet / Malbec
2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
1997 Muscat of Alexandria
The dishes designed by Nicola will also change over time with seasonality, but be matched to the wines nevertheless.
Available for booking ANY night of the year, except Christmas:
$500 per person Minimum 10 guests, Maximum 20.
Watervale Hotel Hell Hole Jail
1pm start for lunch, or 6pm start for dinner
