Kindred: Women’s guided day hike to the Waitpinga Cliffs, Fleurieu Peninsula.
Kindred is a guided hiking program for women who want to deepen their confidence, strengthen their connection to nature, and build real capability outdoors - without the intimidation, ego, or competitiveness that often surrounds adventure spaces.
This is steady, soulful bushwalking paired with practical outdoor skills and personal development themes designed to help you expand, inside and out. Led by qualified female guides, each walk is structured to help you feel safe, seen, and supported while learning the skills that make nature feel natural - packing, planning, navigation, risk management, and trail confidence.
Destination: From Kondoli Whale Lookout to the Waitpinga Cliffs via the Heyson and return.
Distance: 6.6kms Return, with 187m elevation.
Duration: 6hours (9am - 3pm)
This guided walk is the first in the Kindred series, and follows the Heysen Trail from Kondoli Whale Lookout to the Waitpinga Cliffs, returning via the same route. The walk begins with a Ngarrindjeri Welcome to Country by Taylah Lochert, giving everyone the opportunity to ground onto "Ruwi".The walk is 6.6km return with around 187 metres of elevation gain, allowing time to move steadily, pause, and take in the landscape along the way.
The trail begins on a narrow section of the Heysen Trail, gently climbing past open farming land before entering eucalypt forest. From here, the path opens out along the edge of the Waitpinga Cliffs, with wide views across the Southern Ocean. This walk is rated Moderate and is suited to women with a basic level of fitness who feel comfortable spending several hours walking outdoors.
The day runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm, offering a relaxed, supported pace that allows space for learning, rest, and connection to place.
This walk introduces the first learning focus of the program, centred on building a strong foundation for bushwalking and day hiking.
Skills & Learning Focus
Along the way, we’ll explore:
How to pack your day pack using the ABC system
Footwear and clothing choices, including layering for changing conditions
What to carry on a day hike and how each item supports comfort and safety
Understanding trail systems and how to move respectfully through them
Trail etiquette and minimal-impact principles for caring for the places we walk
These learnings are woven gently into the day, supporting confidence, capability, and ease on the trail — both now and into future hikes.
