Mbabaram Culture Camp Overnight Experience
Yidinji Explorer Tour - Begin your day with the Yidinji Explorer Tour which includes guided cultural walks at the Cathedral Fig Tree and Lake Barrine before following your guide in your vehicle to the Mbabaram Culture Camp, an exclusive off-grid park situated in Watsonville, about a 40-minute drive west of Lake Barrine in the open savannah bushlands of Mbabaram Country.
Picnic Lunch & Tent Allocation - As you arrive at the Mbabaram Culture Park, your guide will provide a welcome and run you through the safety and housekeeping of the camp area before allocating you with your tent accommodation.
Bushwalk - After settling into your tent, sit under the gum trees and enjoy a picnic lunch before heading off on a 300m walk into the nearby bushland to learn about the Mbabaram peoples use of local flora as a source of food and medicine, as well as valuable timber for constructing tools and weapons.
Handling Tools & Weapons - After our bushwalk we gather under the gum trees again to have a close look at some of tools and weapons used in Mbabaram culture. Try your hand at starting fireusing traditional firesticks, practice your spear throwing skills, and learn about the importance that art plays in Aboriginal culture as we make paint using ochre rocks.
Fishing & Swimming - We leave the campsite in our 7-seater 4WD vehicle and travel to a nearby river site often used by Mbabaram families for fishing. Relax on the sandy bank with fishing line in hand and connect with your guide through meaningful conversation. Or you may like to just relax in the cool waters before heading back to the campsite, taking any fish we catch for tasting later on.
Hot Showers, Campfire Cooking & Sunset Dinner - Returning from our fishing trip, enjoy a nice hot shower and then help your guide prepare and cook our campfire dinner on the fire. Your guide will also prepare any fish caught for you to taste (optional).
As the sun begins to set, gather in your camp chairs around fire with a flavorsome dinner. Enjoy some good company, and a bit of trivia. Your guide may even bring out a guitar or a didgeridoo to set the mood as you relax and wind down after a full day of exploring and learning.
Breakfast & Birdwatching - Arise early the next morning to the sounds of the kookaburras and the scent of bacon & eggs sizzling on the grill. Enjoy a hot coffee and BBQ breakfast before exploring the parks morning winged visitors. The park often attracts Rosellas, Kookaburras, Parrots, and Lorikeets. If you are an avid bird watcher you may spot some different species. We also have plenty of binoculars for you to borrow.
It is then time to pack up and check out of your tent as you prepare to depart, taking with you cherished memories, a deep understanding of rainforest and bushland cultures, and a sense of connection to the land.
