Day 1 – Depart Alice Springs at 8am and travel via Wycliffe Wells, Barrow Creek, the old Overland Telegraph stations , Mt Stirling and Ti-tree are significant landmarks before we arrive at the Devils Marbles for great photo opportunities at sunset. The day includes visiting the Aileron Outback Art Gallery where we can see artists at work. Connect with the gold mining history of Tennant Creek , and more of the amazing boulder formations. Aboriginal legend refers to stones like the Devils Marbles as the “Eggs of the Rainbow Serpent” . We travel via Three Ways where the road from Mt Isa and Townsville join the Stuart Highway . Here we see the John Flynn memorial (father of the Royal Flying Doctor Service). We cross the Ashburton and Whittington Ranges as we travel via famous outback town of Renner Springs, Lake Woods & Newcastle Waters. Overnight Daly Waters famous outback rest stop.
Day 2 – Travel via Katherine , and on to Kakadu rock art sites. We take a walk at stunning Nourlangie Rock before Cooinda Resort for overnight. Enjoy the resort facilities at Cooinda Lodge before a spectacular sunset walk at Yellow Waters viewing the birdlife settling in for the night. Overnight Cooinda.
Day 3 – Board the early boat on the Yellow Waters to cruise amongst extraordinary birdlife and crocodiles in this World Heritage listed wetlands . Visit Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Bowali Visitor Centre. Then later we visits Ubirr Rock Window on the Wetlands tranquilviewing area (time permitting) that supports abundant bird life. Travel via Humpty Doo to arrive in Darwin early evening for farewells.

After arrival in Birdsville (via the Simpson Desert)....
Day 1 – Optional morning Lake Eyre, Goyder Lagoon & Simpson Desert flights (book early). Enjoy the iconic outback town of Birdsville, once a custom post for cattle heading south to Adelaide markets, now centre of an organic beef export industry, full of fascinating outback experiences. Have a cuppa at the Hard Road Café, check out the airport adjacent to the pub, and the historic sights of the town including the marked tree at Camp LXXVI of the Burke and Wills expedition of 1860. View the now historic thermal power station running on hot water from the Great Artesian Basin, or take a joy flight over the Simpson and Goyder Lagoon area. 7 Day tour ends here with flights (own cost) from Birdsville to Brisbane or elsewhere. After lunch we depart and travel due north through Channel Country and the Diamantina Shire HQ at Bedourie , crossing several creeks and water holes often hosting wetland birds including Brolgas. Day 2 – The Min Min Encounter is a theatre presentation at the visitors centre, where we learn of the fascinating story of the Min Min lights phenomena – a mystery of strange red lights appearing and following people in this remote desert region. We depart after the exhibition and town tour for Mt Isa, through fascinating mountain and mineral country. View the massive mine that dominates the town, then overnight Mt Isa
Day 3 - Travel the vast Barkly tablelands via Coomaweal and Barkley Homestead in the heart of cattle country to Three Ways for overnight BLD
Day 4 - Today we are back on the dirt as we head for top Kimberley & NT grazing country via Top Springs where we overnight. BLD
Day 5 - Travel to Wave Hill where on the 23rd of August 1966, Vincent Lingiari led 200 courageous Wave Hill workers and their families, to walk off the Station and begin their strike. The group formed a new settlement at nearby Wattie Creek (Daguragu). Initially, the pastoralists believed the workers would return with improved wages and conditions. Eventually, the pastoralist Vestey surrendered as Gough Whitlam handed the land back to the people - A landmark in recent Australian history. We meet some of the locals and connect with the story of this momentous event. Onwards through cattle country and the old Halls Creek mountains of gold, by a beautiful waterhole to Halls Creek for overnight. BLD
Day 6 - Cruising to Broome today via Marys Pool and waterhole (a birdies favorite) and Nygumban ciffs. Opportunity to visit Aboriginal art centre at halls Creek

Day 1 – Depart Alice Springs at 8am and travel via remote Utopia region Aboriginal art centres of Ampilatwatja (pronounced um-blood-a-watch) and Ali Curung. Here you can meet the artists and view them at work, and purchase art directly from the source. Travel on via Wycliffe Wells (UFO centre of Australia) , to overnight at Wauchope at the Devils Marbles Hotel.
Day 2 - An early start to arrive at the Devils Marbles for a walk in this mystical boulder formations, and great photo opportunities. Aboriginal legend refers to stones like the Devils Marbles as the “Eggs of the Rainbow Serpent” . Visit the Aboriginal cultural centre and art centre with more Utopia region artists working here. Later, connect with the history of Tennant Creek , including gold mining. We visit the historic Telegraph Station before overnight in Tennant Creek

Onward to Katherine , and take a 2 hour boat cruise on Katherine Gorge and view Aboriginal rock art in the gorge cruise. An optional helicopter flight to rock art higher in the gorge is also available. Katherine is the NT's 3rd largest town, and more Aboriginal art galleries are here displaying and selling art from nearby communities.
Day 5 - Heading North, enjoy a swim and break at scenic Edith Falls. Travel via Pine Creek and check out the " Great Northern Railway " & gold mining history, then Alligator River to arrive in Darwin late afternoon for a celebration meal together.

The Stirling Range National Park is home to more than 1,500 species of native plants, 87 of which aren’t found anywhere else in the world. With unique and abundant wildflowers, including Banksia, Dryandras, Queen Sheba Orchids and Mountain Bells, plus the beauty of the mountain landscape, this park is one of the South West’s most popular destinations. The pathways in Porongurup National Park lead through Marri, Jarrah and Karri forest to reach the summits of weathered granite domes. Darwin to Broome – 8 day Kimberley Tour with Bungle Bungles
Day 1 – Overland to Kununurra departing from Darwin at 800 am (fly to Kununurra options available Travel via the
Stuart Highway via Adelaide River, and Katherine, the NT’s 3rd largest town. We turn west on the Victoria Highway (part of the Savannah Way) and pass through rich cattle country and spectacular rugged mountain landscapes through Gregory National Park to Victoria River and Timber Creek. Enjoy views of the Stokes Range. We travel to cross the NT/WA state border and arrive in Kununurra for overnight. If departing from Broome, travel the Savannah Way via Fitzroy Crossing & Halls Creek to overnight at Mabel Downs Station adjacent Bungle Bungles) LD
Day 2 – Depart 800 am to view the Ord River scheme and Kununurra highlights, ‘the eastern gateway to the Kimberley’. Travel the Savannah Way overland to the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park) and to Cathedral Gorge where we walk into Picanninny Creek ,and Cathedral Gorge, surrounded by the Beehive Domes for which the park is so famous. Arrival into the gorge displays a magnificent amphitheatre designed by nature at its best. Relax in this shaded area before returning to our 4WD. Consider an optional scenic helicopter flight over the Bungle Bungle domes. Return to our overnight accommodation adjacent the park. BLD
Day 3 – Check out the fabulous Warmun art gallery displaying local works before we depart for the Gibb River Road and El Questro Station, a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and gorges. Its here that the movie Australia was filmed, nestled under the Cockburn Ranges . On our way we visit the port of Wyndham, Parrys Lagoon (bird lovers waterhole with salty crocs) and the Five Rivers Lookout, high above the Cambridge Gulf . This afternoon after lunch by the riverside, enjoy a cruise in the Chamberlain River Gorge and sunset viewing from Pigeon Lookout over the Pentecost River. Overnight at El Questro. BL Dinner own at expense at station restaurant.
Day 4 – This morning relax in the Zebedee hot springs before a walk at El Questro’s Emma Gorge , with swim option. We then journey the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via the Cockburn Range , and many boab trees to cross the mighty Pentecost River and view from a high vantage point. We take another look at the Pentecost River on Home Valley Station and enjoy the facilities of Home Valley Station for overnight.BLD
Day 5 – Today we view some special Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina and Bradshaw (Gion Gion) rock art. The days journey takes us through varying terrain including high mountains and “jump ups”, and some great river crossings as we travel from East to West Kimberley, including a stop on the banks of the Durack River . Enjoy a break at Ellenbrae Station and a bird lovers billabong. We take a left turn at the Kulumburu Rd junction, cross the Hann River and visit Manning Gorge waterhole before arrival at our overnight stop at Mt Barnett. BLD
Day 6 – From Mt Barnett we travel south on the Gibb River Rd to secluded and majestic Galvans Gorge with more Wandjina rock art , great scenery and good swimming and photos too! We travel through spectacular Kimberley woodlands and river crossings and climb the King Leopold Ranges and travel through the picturesque Inglis Gap and King Leopold Conservation Park. This is spectacular mountain country with impressive views over the ranges and vast woodlands and plains. We cross the Lennard River and pass through the ancient Devonian era Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass to arrive at Windjana Gorge National Park before a walk in Windjana Gorge. Here is abundant wildlife including freshwater crocodiles in this eerie, ancient seabed environment – where the mega fauna roamed. We then follow the Devonian Reef / Napier Range road to Tunnel Creek with its many boab trees and picturesque complex shapes to Tunnel Creek. Here we don our torches and shorts to wade through this incredible underground river system full of stalagmites and stalactites and even an under ground spring. This is where the Aboriginal freedom fighter Jandamarra and the Bunuba Resistance was centred in the 1890s, depicted in 2 novels and a recent stage production. After our walk in the shady and refreshing underground system, we follow the ranges and cross through them again, to arrive Fitzroy Crossing for overnight. BL – dinner own expense at restaurant
Day 7 – After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge Fitzroy River cruise and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. Enjoy a visit to the local Aboriginal art centre then comfortable highway cruising to Derby to visit the famous Prison Boab tree , and then Derby highlights including the Derby wharf (10 metre/30 ft tides!) on King Sound , the world’s longest cattle drinking trough, the new Mowanjum Aboriginal Art Centre (opportunity to meet the artists, learn and buy from source) at Mowanjum Aboriginal Community . Depart Derby for Broome to arrive late afternoon to be delivered to your accommodation. Time permitting enjoy sunset at Cable Beach over the Indian Ocean , and possibly an optional camel ride. Day 1 – Depart from Broome travelling through vast Savannah grasslands to Willare on the Fitzroy River before we visit the infamous prison Boab tree with its insights into past and more recent history and cultural significance. We then commence our journey on the Gibb River Road for mystical Windjana Gorge and a walk through the gorge at this special creation “waterhole”. Here is abundant wildlife and numerous freshwater crocodiles in this eerie, ancient seabed environment. After lunch we follow the Devonian Reef /Napier Range to Tunnel Creek National Park with its many boab trees and picturesque complex shapes to Tunnel Creek. Here we don torches and shorts to wade through this incredible underground river system full of active stalagmites and stalactites and even an underground spring. This is where the Aboriginal freedom fighter Jandamarra and the Bunuba Resistance was centred in the 1890s, depicted in 2 novels and a recent stage production. After our walk in the shady and refreshing underground system, we follow the boab clad ranges and then cross through them again, to travel through sweeping Kimberley grasslands and cattle country to cross the flood plains of the Fitzroy River. Check in at our accommodation at Fitzroy Crossing before a relaxing night and tasty evening meal, with a chance to meet some of the locals. LD
Day 2 – After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Darngku Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. There is time to check out the local Aboriginal Art Centre and take a look around Fitzroy Crossing which is an education and supply centre for surrounding cattle stations and Aboriginal communities. After a morning cuppa, our journey continues via Mesa & mountain country and we take a photo stop at the scenic Ngumban Cliffs , where the grey limestone Devonian Reef meets the red sandstone and laterite layers of the Canning Basin. We take a lunch break at the scenic and bird lovers Marys Pool on the Mary River. Halls Creek is next with its gold mining history including the tale of Russian Jack, before the local Aboriginal Art Centre (time permitting). Travel on to Mabel Downs Cattle Station and to the Bungles Bungles Safari Park for overnight. BLD
Day 3 – Today we drive amongst the domes as we enter the Bungle Bungles in Purnululu National Park to marvel at this high energy amazing orange and black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Walk the spectacular Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek. After lunch a walk in Echidna Gorge. Optional scenic helicopter flights also available approx $280 for 18 minutes – fantastic. Day 4 – We farewell the Bungle Bungles today and stop at Turkey Creek and the Warmun Aboriginal Art Centre – where Rover Thomas and numerous other famous Aboriginal artists emerged. Here you can view the latest works, meet the artists and find some bargain art. After Turkey Creek , we travel through spectacular rugged granite mountain ranges past the Argyle Diamond Mine to Five Rivers Lookout overlooking the spectacular Cambridge Gulf and Wyndham. This morning soak up the relaxing Zebedee hot springs , enjoy a walk in spectacular Emma Gorge or alternative El Questro or Amelia Gorge, before a cruise on the Chamberlain River Gorge and viewing from Pigeon Lookout over the Pentecost River. Day 6 – Today we journey the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via Cockburn Rang e, to cross the mighty Pentecost River and view this ancient sweeping river and landscape from a high vantage point. Enjoy the Durack River, and another river crossing. View Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina and Bradshaw’s (Gwion Gwion). We cross the Hann and Barnett Rivers , to Mt Barnett Roadhouse , then Manning Gorge waterhole. Day 1 – Departs selected Sundays from Broome 730 am. Depart from Derby for mystical Windjana Gorge and a short hop further to Tunnel Creek. We walk through this 600m cave river system to a special waterhole. Day 2 – We travel the Gibb River Rdvisiting Lennard River, and through the Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass. We traverse the King Leopold Ranges & Conservation Park (great views)via Inglis Gap and visit Imitji store and the Aboriginal community to arrive at Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary for our overnight stop. You can join Mornington’s Naturalist Guide for a complimentary talk/slideshow for an insight into the work of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and the unique values of Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary. Day 3 – Enjoy an easy access early morning walk along Annie Creek if you choose, before our spectacular 4WD journey to either nearby gorge. Dimond Gorge is beautiful. Majestic geological formations are a highlight and the view from the lookout at Dimond Gorge is very special. The drive to Sir John Gorge takes you through undulating savannah formed over the millennia from the erosion of the Leopold Sandstones and the breakdown of volcanic ridges. It is a1 hour drive (14km). The destinations itself is a massive thoroughfare of the Fitzroy River that started to carve its way through the sandstone while life on earth was still in its infancy. Mornington Sanctuary covers more than 3,000 km2of spectacular gorges and tropical savannah dominated by the Fitzroy River and King Leopold Ranges . Owned and managed by the non-profit AustralianWildlife Conservancy. Our wilderness camp base is a naturalist’s paradise, providing refuge for over 200 species of birds and a diverse range of other w ildlife. All proceeds from the Wilderness Camp are dedicated to the conservation of wildlife in the Kimberley. After lunch, we stop at picturesque Galvan’s Gorge for an optional swim, then travel viaMt Barnett, to overnight at Manning Gorge campsite (or Mt Barnett accommodated) BLD
Day 4 – Enjoy an early morning walk and swim at Manning Gorge Falls or in the large peaceful waterhole beside the campsite. View nearby rock art sites. We then travel the Gibb River Road t o Gibb River Station and Aboriginal community for a cuppa and view Aboriginal artworks. Then on to El Questro Wilderness Resort& Station , a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and gorges. Enroute we stop at a peaceful waterhole and view spectacular Wandjinaand Bradshaw (Gion Gion) rock art. We travel country where some of the Australia movie scenes were filmed and cross the mighty Pentecost River under the spectacular Cockburn Range . Overnight at El Questro Station. Day 5 – This morning enjoy a pre-breakfast swim or walk adjacent our accommodation by the Pentecost River. After breakfast relax in the warm waters of the tropical paradise amongst the Livingstonia palms trees at Zebedeehot springs . This morning we also enjoy a walk and optional swim in one of El Questro’s many fabulous gorges. After lunch by the riverside, enjoy a cruise in the Chamberlain River Gorge and the view from Pigeon Lookout over the Pentecost River. We leave El Questro travelling adjacent the Cockburn Ranges and Boab trees, having completed the Gibb RiverRd, to arrive Kununurra for overnight. BLD
Day 6 – Depart 830am to experience Kununurra , ‘the eastern gateway to the Kimberley’ and surroundings by air with a morning scenic flight over the renowned OrdIrrigation area, mighty Ord River Scheme and the enormous man-made Lake Argyle before arriving at the Bungle Bungle where you transfer to an air-conditioned 4WD. On your short overland travels to Cathedral Gorge learn of the Bungles heritage and hear some of local nature’s hidden secrets. Be amazed on your walk into Cathedral Gorge , where you will be surrounded by the Beehive Dome s for which the park is so famous. Arrival into the gorge displays a magnificent amphitheatre designed by nature at its best. Relax in this shaded area and enjoy a memorable picnic lunch before returning on your walk to rejoin the 4WD. Travel to the Bungle Bush Camp for afternoon tea then rejoin the aircraft to complete your afternoon scenic flight over the ancient Ragged Ranges and the Argyle diamond mine . Day 1 – Overland to Kununurra departing from Darwin at 800 am -fly to Kununurra options available Travel via the Stuart Highway via Adelaide River, and Katherine, the NT’s 3rd largest town. We turn west on the Victoria Highway (part of the Savannah Way) and pass through rich cattle country and spectacular rugged mountain landscapes through Gregory National Park to Victoria River and Timber Creek. Enjoy views of the Stokes Range. We travel to cross the NT/WA state border and arrive in Kununurra for overnight.
Day 2 – Depart to view the Ord River Scheme and Kununurra highlights, ‘the eastern gateway to the Kimberley’. Visit the Sandalwood Factory and optionally the Rum Distillery plus Zebra Stone gallery. Travel the Savannah Way overland to the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park) and overnight at the Bungle Bungles Safari Camp. BLD
Day 3 - Travel deep into the BungleBungles to Cathedral Gorge where we walk into Picanninny Creek , and Cathedral Gorge, surrounded by the Beehive Domes for which the park is so famous. Day 5 – This morning relax in the Zebedee hot springs before a walk at El Questro’s Emma Gorge , with swim option. We then journey the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via the Cockburn Range , and many boab trees to cross the mighty Pentecost River and view from a high vantage point. We take another look at the Pentecost River on Home Valley Station a popular fishing place and enjoy the facilities including swimming at Home Valley Station for overnight. BLD
Day 6 – Today we view some special Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina and Bradshaw (Gion Gion) rock art. The days journey takes us through varying terrain including high mountains and “jump ups”, and some great river crossings as we travel from East to West Kimberley, including a stop on the banks of the Durack River . Enjoy a break at Ellenbrae Station and a bird lovers billabong. We take a left turn at the Kulumburu Rd junction, cross the Hann River and visit Manning Gorge waterhole for our overnight stop near Mt Barnett. Day 7 – From Mt Barnett we travel south on the Gibb River Rd to secluded and majestic Galvans Gorge with more Wandjina rock art , great scenery and good swimming and photos too! We travel through spectacular Kimberley woodlands and river crossings and climb the King Leopold Ranges and travel through the picturesque Inglis Gap and King Leopold Conservation Park. This is a spectacular mountain country with impressive views over the ranges and vast woodlands and plains. We cross the Lennard River and pass through the ancient Devonian era Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass to arrive at Windjana Gorge National Park before a walk in Windjana Gorge. Here is abundant wildlife including freshwater crocodiles in this eerie, ancient seabed environment – where the mega fauna roamed. We then follow the Devonian Reef / Napier Range road to Tunnel Creek with its many boab trees and picturesque complex shapes to Tunnel Creek. Here we don our torches and shorts to wade through this incredible underground river system full of stalagmites and stalactites and even an underground spring. This is where the Aboriginal freedom fighter Jandamarra and the Bunuba Resistance was centred in the 1890s, depicted in 2 novels and recent stage production. After our walk in the shady and refreshing underground system, we follow the ranges and cross through them again, to arrive Fitzroy Crossing for overnight. BL – dinner own expense at restaurant

Visit Marys Pool, by the riverside and a major attraction for native birds including brolga, corellas, jabiru, and crocodiles . Travel on to scenic views from Ngumban Cliffs, then Mimbi Caves, in the Devonian Reef. Here our local Bunuba Aboriginal guides offer a 2 hours experience through this fascinating labyrinth of caves which includes rock art and stunning underground pools. Overnight Fitzroy Crossing. BL
Day 5 - After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. A short bushwalk through the fascinating ancient Devonian limestone reef is also recommended. The Stirling Range National Park is home to more than 1,500 species of native plants, 87 of which aren’t found anywhere else in the world. With unique and abundant wildflowers, including Banksia, Dryandras, Queen Sheba Orchids and Mountain Bells, plus the beauty of the mountain landscape, this park is one of the South West’s most popular destinations. The pathways in Porongurup National Park lead through Marri, Jarrah and Karri forest to reach the summits of weathered granite domes. From here there are panoramic views of the coastline, the nearby Stirling Range, surrounding farmland and vineyards.
Amongst the granite and the scenic views you’ll discover a diversity of native flora and fauna; from the yellow Acacias and purple Hovea, to wallabies, antechinus, southern brown bandicoots and grey kangaroos. The powerful Southern Ocean has sculptured spectacular coastal features known as ‘The Gap’ and the ‘Natural Bridge’ along Torndirrup National Park’s buffeted coastline. Complemented by a display of wildflowers, including the Sticky Tailflower, the pink Pimilea Rosea and blue Scaevola Nitida. Margaret River William Bay National Park is renowned for its windswept granite rocks, which have a striking primeval appearance. Enjoy one of Western Australia’s most iconic beaches at Greens Pool. Clear emerald waters, pure white sand and granite rocks shelter the bay, making it a top spot for swimming, snorkelling and diving in The Southern Ocean. We visit Western Australia’ s famous Valley of the Giants. This magnificent sight is best from the Tree Top Walk , which soars gently upwards, 40 metres into the tingle foliage and extends for 600 metres.

Day 1 Perth – Wave Rock Travel through the Golden Outback viewing and stopping for wildflowers on our journey to Boddington, the site of Australia’s largest gold mine. Continue to Wave Rock, a unique and ancient rock formation.

Travel via Coolgardie a former gold boomtown and on to Kalgoorlie for amazing views over the famous Super Pit open-cut gold mine, and a tour of this famous town.

Visit Cape Le Grand National Park for the wild coastal scenery, rugged granite peaks, sweeping heathlands and white sand beaches. At Lucky Bay, we may see some whales after their calf birthing.

Day 4 Esperance – Albany
Travel on through Ravensthorpe and the unique Fitzgerald Biosphere. Later, at Bluff Knoll Lookout, you’ll witness the rugged beauty of the Stirling Ranges National Park. Continue to Albany, a town famous for its whaling station and Anzac history. Consider a visit to the National ANZAC Centre, where 41,000 men and woman departed for the Great War.

Day 5 Albany – Margaret River
Explore the Giants Tree Top Walk in the majestic Tingle forest. Then to Cape Leeuwin, where the Indian and Great Southern Oceans meet. On to Margaret River, one of Australia’s premier wine-growing regions. Enjoy the beaches of the nearby coast, and perhaps spot migratory whales between June and November.

Kimberley Broome Darwin via Kununurra Bungle Bungles Tour 8 Days
– Itinerary –
Day 1 – Depart from Broome travelling through vast Savannah grasslands to Willare on the Fitzroy River. We visit the culturally significant Prison Boab Tree and Mowanjum Aboriginal Art Centre and Derby township. Heading east on the Savannah Way we arrive at Fitzroy Crossing which is an education and supply centre for surrounding cattle stations and Aboriginal communities. It's then a short drive to Geike Gorge for a 1 hour sunset cruise on the mighty Fitzroy River through the Devonian Reef . Overnight accommodation at Fitzroy Crossing . LD
Day 2 – We drive through the Devonian Reef / Napier Range to Tunnel Creek , well hidden in the fascinating geology of this limestone reef with its many boab trees and picturesque complex shapes. This is where the Aboriginal freedom fighter Jandamarra and the Bunuba Resistance was centred in the 1890s, depicted in 2 novels and a recent stage production. Here we can don torches and shorts to wade through this incredible underground river system full of stalagmites and stalactites and even an underground spring. Alternatively, take a short walk in the shady and refreshing surrounding area by the creek that feeds the underground water system. Travelling on we follow the range and cross through them again, to arrive for lunch and a short walk in Windjana Gorge National Park with abundant wildlife and numerous freshwater crocodiles in this eerie, ancient seabed environment – where the mega fauna roamed.
Driving on now on the Gibb River Road , we cross the Lennard River and pass through the ancient Devonian era Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass. Our tour then climbs the King Leopold Ranges and we travel through the picturesque Inglis Gap and King Leopold Conservation Park. This is a spectacular mountain country with impressive views over the ranges and vast woodlands and plains. We travel through spectacular Kimberley woodlands and river crossings before the Imitji Aboriginal Community and store. Here we have unique Aboriginal artwork and one of the few real coffees you can find on the Gibb (except our BYO). Overnight Imitji / Bell Gorge Safari Camp
Day 3 – After a tasty breakfast, we head off the Gibb for a walk into picturesque Bell Gorge We are deep in the Kimberley now, and time permitting enjoy a swim and relax at the easy to access and scenic Galvans Gorge with more Wandjina rock art , great scenery and good swimming and photos too. We arrive at the beautiful Manning Gorge water hole campground for swimming or relaxing or if accommodated, Mt Barnett Roadhouse for overnight. BLD
Day 4 - Enjoy an early swim in this large picturesque and safe waterhole surrounded by large paperbark trees. A 3 hour return walk to Manning Gorge Falls is also available for active walkers. We continue on the Gibb River road crossing the Hann River, and travelling through Ellenbrae and Home Valley stations. At the Durack River crossing, we enjoy a stop on the river bank then traverse several more small water crossings to the mighty Pentecost River and view the stunning Cockburn Range from a high vantage point. Day 5 – An optional 2 hours return walk up Emma Gorge (or alternative gorge) to a waterfall is available or simply relax among the boabs and comforts of the resort. This morning enjoy the Zebedee Hot springs nestled in the Livingstonia Palms against 1.8 Billion year old King Leopold sandstone escarpments. Warm water flows from here and the springs are a delight for reflecting the journey and relaxing in the true Kimberley way. Enjoy lunch by Jackaroos waterhole,then an afternoon swim in the Pentecost River at the resort. We depart El Questro and travel travel on to Wyndham, Western Australia’s most northerly town and awe at the landscape from Five Rivers Lookout , with views over the spectacular river systems and wetland flood plains feeding Cambridge Gulf. We visit the wetlands of Parry’s Lagoon , a Ramsar listed site and haven for wetland birds from afar. The bird life at Parry Lagoon is some of the richest in the Kimberley, with Brolgas, Jabiru, Whistling Ducks, Egrets, waders , and many more. We leave the region adjacent the Cockburn Ranges and boab trees, having completed the Gibb River Rd, to arrive Kununurra for overnight. BLD
Day 6 – Depart 830 am to experience Kununurra , ‘the eastern gateway to the Kimberley’ and surroundings by air with a morning scenic flight over the renowned Ord Irrigation area, mighty Ord River Scheme and the enormous man made Lake Argyle before arriving at the Bungle Bungle where you transfer to an air-conditioned 4WD. On your short overland travels to Cathedral Gorge learn of the Bungles heritage and hear some of local nature’s hidden secrets. Be amazed on your walk into Cathedral Gorge , where you will be surrounded by the Beehive Dome s for which the park is so famous. Arrival into the gorge displays a magnificent amphitheatre designed by nature at its best. Relax in this shaded area and enjoy a memorable picnic lunch before returning on your walk to rejoin the 4WD. Travel to the Bungle Bush Camp for afternoon tea then rejoin the aircraft to complete your afternoon scenic flight over the ancient Ragged Ranges and the Argyle Diamond Mine . Arriving back in Kununurra approx. 500 pm. The day includes easy to moderate 3 km walk into Cathedral Gorge via the Beehive Domes. On return, enjoy some free time relaxing by the lake or check out some art bargains. Overnight in Kununurra . Dinner own expense local restaurant.
Day 7 – Fly to Darwin option otherwise depart Kununurra at 7 am via spectacular Victoria River mountain landscapes, travelling savannah cattle country, then Timber Creek. Here we climb the escapement for an expansive view over the Victoria River and learn of the Nackaroos, the “Northern Force” that scouted the region on horseback protecting Australia’s coastal border during World War II. We stop at the Durack Monument, Victoria River Roadhouse then on to Katherine hot springs for a dip – time permitting. Then on to the Stuart Highway for the last 300 km run into Darwin, arriving approximately 7pm BLD Optional flights to several major Australian cities which depart Darwin late evening/ early am.

Day 2 – After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Darngku Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. We then travel eastward on the Savannah Way to experience a 2 hour Aboriginal guided cultural experience at Mimbi Caves (subject to availability) before lunch at the picturesque Ngumban Cliffs. This is Mesa country with impressive views over the vast grassland plains and take a break at the scenic and bird lovers Marys Pool on the Mary River. Halls Creek is next with its gold mining history including the tale of Russian Jack , before the local Aboriginal Art Centre . Travel on to Mabel Downs Cattle Station and to the Bungles Bungles Safari Park for overnight. BLD
Day 3 – Experience the extraordinary Bungles Bungles in Purnululu National Park by 4WD and marvel at this high energy amazing orange and black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Enjoy and easy walk the spectacular Cathedral Gorge , amongst the Beehive Domes and Picaninny Creek and after lunch an optional walk in Echidna Chasm or to a nearby Osmand Lookout. Day 4 – We travel through Warmun and Turkey Creek then spectacular rugged granite mountain ranges past the Argyle Diamond Mine to El Questro Station on the Gibb River Road, under the Cockburn Range to explore El Questro treats including lunch by Jackaroos waterhole by a giant boab before we cross the Pentecost River at El Questro and join an afternoon cruise on the Chamberlain River Gorge. El Questro is a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and gorges. Its here that the movie Australia was filmed, nestled under the Cockburn Ranges. After the cruise enjoy a spectacular sunset from Pigeon Lookout over the rugged Savannah landscape and the Pentecost River . Day 5 – Zebedee hot springs are waiting for us this morning for a warm and relaxing soak in these natural springs among the Livingstonia Palms under the 1.8 Billion year old mountain ranges. An optional gorge walk to Emma Gorge sacred waterhole is available with a swim at the end in the refreshing waters under the waterfall.
Now we are heading to Wyndham and local history and highlights, before lunch at Five Rivers Lookout overlooking the spectacular Cambridge Gulf . After lunch its the RAMSAR listed Parry’s Lagoon (Marglu Billabong) for the rich wetlands bird life including Jabirus and Brolgas , Whistling Ducks, Magpie Geese, waders and more and some quiet time in the Bird Hide. We now head back to Kununurra for overnight BLD
Day 6 – Two options today –
Option 1. Travel to Darwin overland by 4WD or 2 flights daily to Darwin - Tour cost includes 4WD travel to Darwin via Victoria River and Katherine. Arrive approx 7pm. Accommodation own arrangements.
Option 2 . day 6 - Depart on a 6 am flight for Mitchell Falls – including majestic waterfalls, cattle stations, wilderness reserves and incredible coastal views will keep you enthralled all day. View the Ord Irrigation area, Cockburn Range, King George Falls, Berkeley River, Cambridge Gulf, Mitchell Falls and Wyndham mud flats. Land and hike 4.5km to Mitchell Falls and enjoy two thrilling helicopter flights. Optional helicopter alternative to the 4.5 km walk – as this is a difficult and uneven track with river crossings, which can be slippery. There is an option of taking a helicopter transfer instead of walking, this is an additional $145 per person. There is a limited time for the walk, therefore if you are unsure of your walking capabilities, please book the helicopter transfer. Day 1 – Depart Broome 7 am to travel via the vast savannah grasslands , majestic Boab trees and powerful mountains of the Western Kimberley crossing the Fitzroy River near Willare, Day 1 – Depart from Broome travelling through vast Savannah grasslands to Willare on the Fitzroy River before we visit the infamous prison Boab tree with its insights into past and more recent history and cultural significance. We then commence our journey on the Gibb River Road for mystical Windjana Gorge and a walk through the gorge at this special creation “waterhole”. Here is abundant wildlife and numerous freshwater crocodiles in this eerie, ancient seabed environment. After lunch we follow the Devonian Reef /Napier Range to Tunnel Creek National Park with its many boab trees and picturesque complex shapes to Tunnel Creek. Here we don torches and shorts to wade through this incredible underground river system full of active stalagmites and stalactites and even an underground spring. This is where the Aboriginal freedom fighter Jandamarra and the Bunuba Resistance was centred in the 1890s, depicted in 2 novels and a recent stage production. After our walk in the shady and refreshing underground system, we follow the boab clad ranges and then cross through them again, to travel through sweeping Kimberley grasslands and cattle country to cross the flood plains of the Fitzroy River. Check in at our accommodation at Fitzroy Crossing before a relaxing night and tasty evening meal, with a chance to meet some of the locals. LD
Day 2 – After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Darngku Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. There is time to check out the local Aboriginal Art Centre and take a look around Fitzroy Crossing which is an education and supply centre for surrounding cattle stations and Aboriginal communities. After a morning cuppa, our journey continues via Mesa & mountain country and we take a photo stop at the scenic Ngumban Cliffs , where the grey limestone Devonian Reef meets the red sandstone and latertite layers of the Canning Basin. We take a lunch break at the scenic and bird lovers Marys Pool on the Mary River. Halls Creek is next with its gold mining history including the tale of Russian Jack, before the local Aboriginal Art Centre (time permitting). Travel on to Mabel Downs Cattle Station and to the Bungles Bungles Safari Park for overnight. BLD
Day 3 – Today we drive amongst the domes as we enter the Bungle Bungles in Purnululu National Park to marvel at this high energy amazing orange and black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Walk the spectacular Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek. After lunch a walk in Echidna Gorge. Optional scenic helicopter flights also available approx $280 for 18 minutes – fantastic. Day 4 – We farewell the Bungle Bungles today and stop at Turkey Creek and the Warmun Aboriginal Art Centre – where Rover Thomas and numerous other famous Aboriginal artists emerged. Here you can view the latest works, meet the artists and find some bargain art. After Turkey Creek , we head for Five Rivers Lookout overlooking the spectacular Cambridge Gulf and Wyndham. We also visit Parry’s Lagoon for the rich wetlands bird life including Jabirus and Brolgas . We join the Gibb River Rd , to arrive at El Questro resort for a late afternoon relax by the Pentecost River and overnight. Dinner at ELQ restaurant own expense. BL Day 5 – El Questro is a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and gorges. Here is where the movie Australia was filmed, nestled under the Cockburn Ranges . This morning soak up the relaxing Zebedee hot springs , a walk in a spectacular local gorge, before a cruise in the Chamberlain River Gorge and viewing from Pigeon Lookout over the Pentecost River. Day 6 - To day we journey the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via Cockburn Range , to cross the mighty Pentecost River and view from a high vantage point. Enjoy the Durack River crossing. We visit Home Valley Station and view Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina and Bradshaw’s (Gwion Gwion). We take a right turn at the Kulumburu Road for another water crossing of the Gibb River before a break at the famous working cattle station, Drysdale River Station for overnight. BLD
Day 7 – We continue our travel north through spectacular vegetation including cycads, pandanus palms and rainforests and ford the King Edward River before our overnight on Mitchell Plateau. Here we enjoy the waterfalls, swim and visit two vast galleries of Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina & Bradshaw / Gwion Gwion rock art . BLD Overnight on Mitchell Plateau
Day 8 – Today we traverse the Mitchell Plateau to Mitchell Falls and do the easy 2 hour downhill walk via spectacular swimming pools and waterfalls. View several large galleries and rock art sites with Wandjina and Bradshaw / Gwion Gwion rock art sites (including Thylacine / Tasmanian Tiger rock art ) and swim in these beautiful clear freshwaters. This is one of the most remote areas of Australia. At Mitchell Falls base we have a couple of hours to relax and swim in these pristine, energised waters. We take the easy way out with the thrill of a spectacular helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls & Merton Falls for a once in a lifetime view of this vast landscape and coastline. Options also available for extended flights to coastal areas (need to pre-book with Spirit Safaris). Overnight on Mitchell Plateau at our King Edward River base. BLD
Day 9 – Heading south we cross the Drysdale River then take a break at the Drysdale River Station before we cross the Gibb River. We stop at the Gibb River Station and the Aboriginal community at Dodnum to view Aboriginal art works, and catch up on the latest news, and possible local rock art visit. We return to the Gibb River Rd, and head south, crossing the Hann and Barnett Rivers, to Mt Barnett Roadhouse , then Manning Gorge waterhole. This is one of the gems of the Kimberley, for a swim and play and relax, or take the 3-hour return hike to spectacular Manning Gorge Falls with more rock art and a swim at the falls.Overnight BLD
Day 10 – Enjoy picturesque Galvans Gorge with more Wandjina rock art , great scenery and good swimming and photos too! We travel through spectacular Kimberley woodlands and river crossings to Bell Gorge for a walk and swim by the falls. Enjoy a visit to the Imitji store and Aboriginal community and art centre . Day 11 – After breakfast we take the scenic drive through spectacular Kimberley range and cattle country. We drive through the King Leopold Conservation Park (great views at lookouts) via Inglis Gap then through unique geology and the Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass. We cross the Lennard River, and we traverse the King Leopold Ranges & Conservation Park (great views at lookouts) via Inglis Gap. We arrive Derby and visit the new Mowanjum Aboriginal Art Centre (opportunity to meet artists, learn and buy from source) at Mowanjum Aboriginal Community and then Derby highlights including the Derby wharf (30 ft. tides!) on King Sound . Day 1 – Depart Darwin 8 am to travel overland to Lake Argyle or fly to Kununurra options available. Travel via the Stuart Highway via Adelaide River , and Katherine , the NT’s 3rd largest town. We turn west on the Victoria Highway (part of the Savannah Way ) and pass through rich cattle country and spectacular rugged mountain landscapes through Gregory National Park to Victoria River and Timber Creek . Enjoy views of the Stokes Range. We travel to cross the NT/WA state border and arrive in Lake Argyle for overnight. Overnight at Lake Argyle Village Resort. LD
Day 2 - Enjoy an 8 am morning cruise on Lake Argyle and optional swim. After our cruise we via the historic Durack Homestead then depart for Kununurra, when we cross the overflow channel and make a brief stop in Kununurra for supplies and to check out the Aboriginal Art gallery, drive through some of the Ord Ri ver Irrigation Scheme, and visit the Sandalwood factory and plantations. Kununurra is a prosperous productive centre of mining, agriculture, tourism and Aboriginal art . Day 3 – Today we drive amongst the domes as we enter the Bungle Bungles in Purnululu National Park to marvel at this high energy amazing orange and black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Day 4 – We farewell the Bungle Bungles today and stop at Turkey Creek and the Warmun Aboriginal Art Centre – where Rover Thomas and numerous other famous Aboriginal artists emerged. Here you can view the latest works, meet the artists and find some bargain art. After Turkey Creek , we travel through spectacular rugged granite mountain ranges past the Argyle Diamond Mine for then relax with a sunset cruise on Lake Argyle and optional swim. Day 5 – Depart for Kununurra, a prosperous productive centre of mining, agriculture, tourism and Aboriginal art. Kununurra highlights including the Ord River Scheme and Sandalwood factory) We stock up here and check out the local Aboriginal art galleries before heading to Five Rivers Lookout overlooking the spectacular Cambridge Gulf and Wyndham. We also visit Parry’s Lagoon for the rich wetlands bird life including Jabirus and Brolgas . We then join the Gibb River Rd , to arrive at El Questro resort for a late afternoon relax at the resort. Day 6 – El Questro is a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and gorges. Here is where the movie Australia was filmed, nestled under the Cockburn Ranges . This morning soak up the relaxing Zebedee hot springs , enjoy a walk in spectacular Emma Gorge or alternative El Questro or Amelia Gorge, before a cruise on the Chamberlain River Gorge and viewing from Pigeon Lookout over the Pentecost River. Day 7 – Today we journey the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via Cockburn Rang e, to cross the mighty Pentecost River and view this ancient sweeping river and landscape from a high vantage point. Enjoy the Durack River, and another river crossing. View Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina and Bradshaw’s (Gwion Gwion). We take a right turn off the Gibb River Road onto the Kalumburu Road for a another water crossing of the Gibb River before we stop at the famous working cattle station, Drysdale River Station for fuel and supplies. We continue our travel north through spectacular vegetation including cycads, pandanas palms and rainforests and ford the King Edward River before our overnight on Mitchell Plateau. Day 8 – Today we traverse the Mitchell Plateau to Mitchell Falls and do the easy 2 hour downhill walk via spectacular swimming pools and waterfalls.View several large galleries and rock art sites with Wandjina and Bradshaw / Gwion Gwion rock art sites (including Thylacine / Tasmanian Tiger rock art ) and swim in these beautiful clear fresh waters. This is one of the most remote areas of Australia. At Mitchell Falls base we have a couple of hours to relax and swim in these pristine, energised waters. We take the easy way out with the thrill of a spectacular helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls & Merton Falls for a once in a lifetime view of this vast landscape and coastline. Walk out is also an option. Options also available for extended flights to coastal areas (need to pre book with Spirit Safaris). Overnight on Mitchell Plateau at our King Edward River base. BLD
Day 9 – Heading south we Drysdale River then take a break at the Drysdale River Station, before we cross the Gibb River. We settle in at the Mt Elizabeth Station and with nearby Aboriginal community and grassy campground for comfortable camping or station style accommodation is available. BLD
Day 10 – This morning some special rock art sites are visited which include majestic Bradshaw / Gwion and powerful Wandjina Aboriginal rock art sites. We return to the Gibb River Rd, and head south, crossing the Hann and Barnett Rivers, to Mt Barnett Roadhouse, then Manning Gorge waterhole. This is one of the gems of the Kimberley, for a swim and play and relax, or take the 3 hour return hike to spectacular Manning Gorge Falls with more rock art and a swim at the falls. BLD
Day 11 – Enjoy picturesque Galvans Gorge with more Wandjina rock art , great scenery and good swimming and photos too! We travel through spectacular Kimberley woodlands and river crossings to Bell Gorge for a walk and swim by the falls. Overnight at Bell Gorge / Silent Grove / Imitji Safari Camp . BLD
Day 12 – After breakfast enjoy a visit to the Imitji store and Aboriginal community and art centre before the scenic drive through spectacular Kimberley range and cattle country. We drive through the King Leopold Conservation Park (great views at lookouts) via Inglis Gap then through unique geology and the Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass. We cross the Lennard River, and traverse the King Leopold Ranges & Conservation Park (great views at lookouts) via Inglis Gap. We arrive Derby and visit the the new Mowanjum Aboriginal Art Centre (opportunity to meet artists, learn and buy from source) at Mowanjum Aboriginal Community and then Derby highlights including the Derby wharf (30 ft. tides!) on King Sound . Day 1 – Broome - You will be collected from the airport in Broome or meet at our groups pre-arranged accommodation. Enjoy your leisure time in Broome during the day and join us for a debriefing and group dinner that evening and a good nights rest before the big adventure.
Day 2 - After breakfast we depart via the vast savannah grasslands, majestic Boab trees and powerful mountains of the Western Kimberley crossing the Fitzroy River near Willare. Travelling on we stop at a giant boab tree over a thousand years old, and appreciate more of the uniqueness of these trees. We travel via the Erskine Ranges to historic Fitzroy Crossing where we have time to visit the local Aboriginal Art centre and purchase art if desired. We travel adjacent the Napier Range, the ancient Devonian era limestone reef that was formed 350 million years ago by coral like creates, when this area was under seawater. Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch by the Fitzroy River. Travel on viewing ancient mesas and stopping at scenic Ngumban Cliff lookout, and later Marys Pool, popular with many native birds, and crocodiles. We arrive Halls Creek Hotel for overnight. B, L, D
Day 3 – Leaving Halls Creek we take the Tanami Track road south toward Alice Springs and Wolf Creek Crate. We travel via Ruby Plains, and vast cattle station still owned and operated by S. Kidman & Co the pioneering pastoralist who ruled the cattle country of the late 18 & 1900s. We travel by and see Wolfe Creek Crater, the world 2nd largest meteorite crater, before arrival at the Aboriginal community and owned cattle station of Billilluna, the start of the Canning Stock route. From here we pass by waterholes of Lake Gregory (bird watchers paradise) by the Paraku Indigenous Protected Area and check out the birds and wildlife.
Paruku is the Walmajarri name for Lake Gregory. Paruku/Lake Gregory is the only lake in the region with a reliable source of fresh water for large numbers of birds and other animals, supporting over 70 species of waterbirds and 175 aquatic species. Surrounded by hundreds of kilometres of arid desert lands, these wetland oases are fed from a catchment in the south-east Kimberley region. More than 100,000 birds visit the wetlands regularly, with up to 60,000 estimated at Mulan Lake at any one time.
Paruku IPA encompasses a variety of desert and semi-desert landscapes undulating red sand plains, salt pans and occasional dunes with stunted eucalyptus. It is dotted with acacias and spinifex, flood plains with swathes of short grasses and low shrubs, and alluvial plains and sand rises.
We visit Bloodwood Bore and Wells 51 and 50, before stopping for our overnight camp at the restored Well 49, the Crystal Well.
Day 4 – On the track again we explore Breaden Pool and Godfrey's tank – named in 1896 after members of David Carnegie’s expedition. We stop at Wells 48 and 47 then it’s into the sand dunes with their unique vegetation and wildlife to arrive at Well 46 for overnight.
Day 5 - We are now in the Great Sandy Desert and check out Wells 45 & 44, and take a break at Gravity Lakes. From Well 43 we head over the Guli Lake System and past Well 42 to stop for overnight amongst the trees near Helena Springs track.
Day 6 - Enjoy the remote early morning nature of this area before arrival at Well 41, known by the locals as 'Tiru'. This was a popular resting spot for the drovers due to good feed here for their cattle. We head south to cross Lake Tobin then to Well 39, where lots of water here attracts abundant bird life including budgerigars. Wardabunni Rockhole & Well 38 is reached today, where we enjoy another night under the stars.
Day 7 - After another great breakfast we arrive at Well 37, where lay the graves of 3 early drovers who died under mysterious circumstances. We learn more of the mystery and their fate at the site, and numerous other stories of early pioneers before Well 36. Travelling on we visit Well 33 then overnight in comfortable and modern style rooms at the Kunawarritji Aboriginal Community. Here we have abundant water and a chance to catch up on personal laundry.
Day 8 – At Kunawarritji Aboriginal Community and store we can do personal shopping and restock some essential supplies & fuel. These remote communities are always fascinating insights into remote desert life. Onwards we visit Wells 32, 31 and 30 (known as Duna Jinnda). After lunch we travel to Thring Rock, a sandstone outcrop with a lookout we climb for a great view of the landscape, before our overnight camp nearby.
Day 9 - More sand dunes today before Well 27, then the rebuilt Well 26 with good drinking water. We take a break here and stock up with water, then travel to shady Well 25 for lunch under the Desert Oaks before arrival at Well 24 for overnight camp.
Day 10 – We are now also on part of the Talawana Track, which is a direct route to Newman. We see the Capricorn Roadhouse Fuel dump where many Canning trekkers still arrange fuel drops from Newman. Travel on to Georgia Bore, which was sunk in the 1970’s by CRA survey crews. Lake Disappointment is a large salt lake and our goal today. Named by explorer Frank Hann after he was expecting to find a freshwater lake. Overnight and sunset by the lake shore at Lake Disappointment.
Day 11 – We travel several kilometres by the shores of Lake Disappointment to Savory Creek crossing (or diversion crossing depending on water levels) and Well 19. After lunch we visit Onegunyah Rock Hole before majestic Durba Springs where we spend 2 nights in this restful shaded and well watered area.
Day 12 - Durba Springs is known as 'Jilikuru' by the local Martu people, who made this area their home. Elaborate Aboriginal rock art sites are here, and we walk through the Durba Hills area viewing these rock art galleries. Enjoy lunch back at camp and a relaxing easy afternoon as the drovers and cattle did in the good old days.
Day 13 – We leave this little haven and head for Well 16 with its challenging history then the lookout at Well 15 enables a wider view of this incredible landscape. Wells 14 and 13 are visited, then the restored Well 12 with good drinking water. Then on to wells 11 & 10 and MacConkey Hill for our camp under a starry sky.
Day 14 – Today takes us to Weld Springs (Well 9) and the edge of Glen-Ayle Station, where WA’s first premier John Forrest built a fort in 1874 to defend against Aborigines. We travel off the CSR here to Glen-Ayle Station and then to Wiluna for refuelling, before overnight camp at Well 2 on the southern end of Canning Stock Route.
Day 15 - From our last camp here we travel to the BHP mining town of Newman and check into our welcome hotel after lunch. You can explore Newman or just catch up with all those photos at your leisure. Group dinner this evening in Newman.
Day 16 – Today you have time for an optional morning tour of the monster BHP Mt Whaleback mine. Our CSR Tour ends at 10 am after breakfast and for those flying we will transfer you to Newman airport for your flight to Perth.
Alternatively if travelling back to Broome with us we depart after the mine tour and lunch. We travel through spectacular mineral rich Pilbara country, via Roy Hill, the new Gina Reinhart Iron Ore mine, visit the famous and impressive rock formation that is the Marble Bar then overnight in accommodation in Marble Bar township.
Optional Day 17 – Visit the old Comet Mine before we travel mineral rich mining and Mesa areas of Shay Gap, before we cross the mighty De Grey River. Enjoy lunch at spectacular 80 Mile Beach, then a stop at Sandfire to arrive Broome late afternoon. BL

More than 100,000 birds visit the wetlands regularly, with up to 60,000 estimated at Mulan Lake at any one time.
Paruku IPA encompasses a variety of desert and semi-desert landscapes undulating red sand plains, salt pans and occasional dunes with stunted eucalyptus. It is dotted with acacias and spinifex, flood plains with swathes of short grasses and low shrubs, and alluvial plains and sand rises.
We visit Bloodwood Bore and Wells 51 and 50, before stopping for our overnight camp at the restored Well 49, the Crystal Well.
Day 4 – On the track again we explore Breaden Pool and Godfrey's tank – named in 1896 after members of David Carnegie’s expedition. We stop at Wells 48 and 47 then it’s into the sand dunes with their unique vegetation and wildlife to arrive at Well 46 for overnight.
Day 5 - We are now in the Great Sandy Desert and check out Wells 45 & 44, and take a break at Gravity Lakes. From Well 43 we head over the Guli Lake System and past Well 42 to stop for overnight amongst the trees near Helena Springs track.
Day 6 - Enjoy the remote early morning nature of this area before arrival at Well 41, known by the locals as 'Tiru'. This was a popular resting spot for the drovers due to good feed here for their cattle. We head south to cross Lake Tobin then to Well 39, where lots of water here attracts abundant bird life including budgerigars. Wardabunni Rockhole & Well 38 is reached today, where we enjoy another night under the stars.
Day 7 - After another great breakfast we arrive at Well 37, where lay the graves of 3 early drovers who died under mysterious circumstances. We learn more of the mystery and their fate at the site, and numerous other stories of early pioneers before Well 36. Travelling on we visit Well 33 then overnight in comfortable and modern style rooms at the Kunawarritji Aboriginal Community. Here we have abundant water and a chance to catch up on personal laundry.
Day 8 – At Kunawarritji Aboriginal Community and store we can do personal shopping and restock some essential supplies & fuel. These remote communities are always fascinating insights into remote desert life. Onwards we visit Wells 32, 31 and 30 (known as Duna Jinnda). After lunch we travel to Thring Rock, a sandstone outcrop with a lookout we climb for a great view of the landscape, before our overnight camp nearby.
Day 9 - More sand dunes today before Well 27, then the rebuilt Well 26 with good drinking water. We take a break here and stock up with water, then travel to shady Well 25 for lunch under the Desert Oaks before arrival at Well 24 for overnight camp.
Day 10 – We are now also on part of the Talawana Track, which is a direct route to Newman. We see the Capricorn Roadhouse Fuel dump where many Canning trekkers still arrange fuel drops from Newman. Travel on to Georgia Bore, which was sunk in the 1970’s by CRA survey crews. Lake Disappointment is a large salt lake and our goal today. Named by explorer Frank Hann after he was expecting to find a freshwater lake. Overnight and sunset by the lake shore at Lake Disappointment.
Day 11 – We travel several kilometres by the shores of Lake Disappointment to Savory Creek crossing (or diversion crossing depending on water levels) and Well 19. After lunch we visit Onegunyah Rock Hole before majestic Durba Springs where we spend 2 nights in this restful shaded and well watered area.
Day 12 - Durba Springs is known as 'Jilikuru' by the local Martu people, who made this area their home. Elaborate Aboriginal rock art sites are here, and we walk through the Durba Hills area viewing these rock art galleries. Enjoy lunch back at camp and a relaxing easy afternoon as the drovers and cattle did in the good old days.
Day 13 – We leave this little haven and head for Well 16 with its challenging history then the lookout at Well 15 enables a wider view of this incredible landscape. Wells 14 and 13 are visited, then the restored Well 12 with good drinking water. Then on to wells 11 & 10 and MacConkey Hill for our camp under a starry sky.
Day 14 – Today takes us to Weld Springs (Well 9) and the edge of Glen-Ayle Station, where WA’s first premier John Forrest built a fort in 1874 to defend against Aborigines. We travel off the CSR here to Glen-Ayle Station and then to Wiluna for refuelling, before overnight camp at the southern end of Canning Stock Route.
Day 15 - From our last camp here we travel to the BHP mining town of Newman and check into our welcome hotel after lunch. You can explore Newman or just catch up with all those photos at your leisure. Group dinner this evening in Newman.

Day 16 – Today you have time for an optional morning tour of the monster BHP Mt Whaleback mine. Our CSR Tour ends at 10 am after breakfast and for those flying we will transfer you to Newman airport for your flight to Perth. Alternatively if travelling back to Broome with us we depart after the mine tour and lunch. We travel through spectacular mineral rich Pilbara country, via Roy Hill, the new Gina Reinhart Iron Ore mine, visit the famous and impressive rock formation that is the Marble Bar then overnight in accommodation in Marble Bar township. Optional Day 17 – Visit the old Comet Mine before we travel mineral rich mining and Mesa areas of Shay Gap, before we cross the mighty De Grey River. Enjoy lunch at spectacular 80 Mile Beach, then a stop at Sandfire to arrive Broome late afternoon. BL
