Waterfall Gully Hike

An inspiring half day experience that provides easy access to Adelaide’s
most popular trail! This challenging, yet rewarding self-guided hike
takes you from the serenity of Waterfall Gully and along the bush tracks
of Cleland Conservation Park all the way to the summit at Mount Lofty.
At 710m, the summit provides stunning panoramic views overlooking the
Adelaide plains and Gulf St. Vincent.



Start the day active with a refreshing morning hike in the Cleland Conservation Park, an area abundant with native flora and fauna.

Return transport is provided direct to the trailhead – we are the only company servicing the Waterfall Gully Hike.
Specifically structured as a self-guided hike to give plenty of time to explore Adelaide’s favourite trail at your own pace.
An orientation of the trail is provided to assist you with timings, point out areas of interest to stop and highlight the well-marked trails.
The Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Hike is graded as hard and listed as 2.5 hours return (7.8km). It involves steep sections and uneven surfaces
and a good level of fitness and mobility is required.

A bottle of water is included – refill it for free at Mount Lofty Summit with fresh spring water.





PLEASE NOTE – various track works and detours are in place on this trail until September 2018. This will necessitate route and timing modifications which will be advised on the day.



Breathe the fresh morning air at Waterfall Gully
A short scenic drive from the City takes you direct to the trailhead of Adelaide’s most popular hike. Arriving around 8.30am, be amazed by your first sight of the spectacular First Falls sparkling in the morning sunshine. Setting off at your own pace and depending upon your interest stops along the way, expect to take between 1 to 2 hours to arrive at the Summit. Appreciate the serenity of nature with a morning hike
Fully immerse yourself in the environment and sense the wilderness while listening to the sounds of the native birdlife. Detect the distinctive scents of the eucalyptus trees as the 3.9km trail climbs past waterfalls, along streams and gully ridges. Keep a keen eye out for sleepy koalas high in the gum trees, small lizards or even a kangaroo grazing in the bush! Be rewarded with mind-blowing views
Sense the feeling of height as you reach the summit and be rewarded with breathtaking views over Adelaide and beyond. See the city buildings, parklands and iconic Adelaide Oval, look out across the plains to the Airport, the coastal town of Glenelg and the far reaches of Port Adelaide. On a clear day, you may even sight Kangaroo Island!
Re-energise at the Summit Café
The Summit Café is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a morning coffee or brunch while admiring the views. Be sure to take some time to learn some interesting facts and history about the Summit before heading back down to Waterfall Gully. The return hike should take no more than 1 hour. Aim to leave the summit in time to meet your driver back at Waterfall Gully by 12.00pm.

Cleland Hike and Wildlife

This tour is a great way to maximise your day. Starting out on the self guided Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Hike you will trek to Mount Lofty Summit. Prior to setting off you will be provided with a map and orientation from your tour driver. Once you have reached the top and finished enjoying the spectacular views across the Adelaide plains you will then follow the 2km trail to Cleland Wildlife Park and spend the rest of the day engaging with some of Australia’s most unique and curious wildlife!



Start your morning with a rewarding hike to Mount Lofty Summit and spend a relaxing afternoon at Cleland Wildlife Park.

Enjoy a scenic drive along Waterfall Gully Road direct to the trailhead with
the return drive via the beautiful Cleland Conservation Park route.
Specifically structured as a self-guided experience that provides plenty of time to
explore this natural environment at your own pace.
Following a trail orientation, a map and information package is provided to highlight the well-marked trails.
The Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit trail is a rewarding hike set in
the Cleland Conservation Park just 20 minutes from Adelaide.
Witness uninterrupted views across Adelaide and Gulf St. Vincent from Mount
Lofty Summit before hiking down the bush trail that leads to Cleland
Wildlife Park.

Entry fees at Cleland are included along with a complimentary bag of animal
food. The Koala close-up experience and the hand feeding of kangaroos

Walk among the free roaming animals in their natural environment, stop to feed the kangaroos and wallabies, be amazed at the lively wetland birds and be sure to visit Australia’s cutest inhabitants for the Koala ‘close up’ experience.
